Lastly.. is there a PvP system?.. and is it good?
Try google or wikipedia.

It is surprisingly accurate despite common belief.

Grind? It's Diablo 2 + guns. You kill a lot of monsters... But no, there is a pretty smooth and fast leveling in the game. I'm 25 now and I still have some level 20-21 quests not done.

Borderlands is somewhat less grindy than Diablo 2 was - you shouldn't have to ever grind mobs in order to be of a level that you can complete the quests available to you if you do all the quests; however, you may have to grind chests / bosses for better gear if you aren't lucky. Once you beat the game, the only thing left to do is start it over with the good old NEWGAME+ feature, which beefs up the levels of all the enemies (minimum foe level in Playthrough 2 is 32 or so) and makes the experience, I find, more enjoyable than the first run through due to the added challenge. It's very much a game to play with other people though, so playing it alone, especially after completing the first playthrough, will probably get old faster than playing it with some bros.

As for the PvP... It's sort of a joke, really. Game was definitely not designed with PvP in mind, though you can enter special arenas for it, or challenge other players to duels by hitting them over the head with your melee attack. Sirens and Hunters dominate Bricks and Soldiers, with the winner generally being determined by who uses their special skill first (that person being the loser, interestingly enough).

It is really addictive. Whatever you do though, make sure you examine every weapon carefully. I wish I could post a screenie of it but the other night I found a revolver that does some 283 damage, has a 100% to damage, 100% to melee damage(freakin blade on the front of it) and 60% bonus to reload speed. If only it wasn't a double chamber with no scope

That 100% is included in the displayed damage, by the way. Sort of superfluous information really, not quite sure why they chose to display it.

I have a revolver that shoots 7 bullets at once, but for a cost of one.

Seriously, it deals like 90 damage and has x7 like shotguns have, and even leaves 7 marks on the wall and deals lolbig damage.

Are you sure? I'm not trying to be a jerk here but if what you're saying is true then why does it hit for over 500 and headshot for a couple thousand? Really, I'm not trying to come off as an ass here, just trying to understand. My proficiency with handguns is 7 and I've tried it on every enemy type available to me. It always does around 500 damage to enemies at or near my level. I'm totally confused

To note this is while solo, as a Siren, with no damage increasing skills. It also has no elemental damage assigned to it.

No, what he means is that when a gun says 290 damage and it has a "+100% damage" mod under it, it means that without that mod it would be 145. Same as in Diablo 2, although there the values were blue if they were enhanced by a mod.

Guns don't change displayed damage when you level up, so level doesn't change the basic damage. They do deal more damage though, and you can see it pretty nicely when you get the level 11 quest when you are level 7. I tried to kill the boss (before you fixed the bus stop thingie) at level 7, but I barely did any damage to him. At level 10, it was a lot easier.

Your proficiency, however, does matter. The more you use the gun, the better you are at the specific type of weapon, the more damage you deal. Also some enemies are more vulnerable to gunshots, some of them are armored and some are fleshy. Some also have shields. For instance, there are those level... 20? Or 18 caves where you are supposed to collect lightning crystals. I could headshot mobs there for over 3000 damage, because they are so vulnerable to critical hits from guns.

That's also why armored enemies (some spiders, or enemies in cars) are more vulnerable to acid, shielded enemies are easily defeated with Shocking weapons and use Fire for monsters, animals and enemies without protection.

Explosions are good on everything, it seems.

I like my shocking bouncing betties. easily the best 'nade in the game. the second runner up is: you guessed it......the corrosive bouncing betty. after that, I'd have to say the one that steals health and heals you. the rest are fail.

the one that steals health starts with a "t". I use it along with the shocking bouncing betty for nice massive AoE heals. monking in this game is really, really damn fun.

Transfer. I used to use it a lot, but since my Bloodwing heals me for about 140 health for every enemy he hits (and he can hit up to 5 enemies), he outheals me nicely. I'm using Exploding Bouncing Betty right now, but I also like the incendiary one to make up for my lack of Incendiary weapons.

I know what you mean. I tried using everything from incindiery contact to corrosive MIRV but transfusion are the only ones I'm comfortable with because they actually hit the target! It's frustrating but that's my main gripe with the game, explosives don't seem to work right. The explosions don't seem to have enough splash damage and you generally have to land it right at their feet or they can easily avoid it. On top of that I've had some really poor experiences with the triple rocket launchers that fire 3 in a spiral.

Pearl. Didn't know I could get them at low levels on Playthrough 1.

nice find~!

I know most of you probably did so, but if you didn't here are some useful tweaks. The most important one, to me, was disabling the mouse smoothing.
I was wondering why the log/inventory felt so clunky. rejoice keyboard/mouse users.

-also killing those splash screens is nice. have fun and happy hunting.

Oh, btw guys, try Torchlight. I was sceptical at first, but it's really fun. Although you may get some deja vu with the atmosphere, music and some mechanics (sockets, enchanting ;p), it's really good.

Torchlight is fun, until...
  1. It wipes your save files. All of them.
  2. Guy for first quest refuses to follow 6 characters in a row.
  3. You learn that you can dupe things from a vendor at the very start of a game on accident.

And there are plenty more bugs to go with them, but of course they wait until after the first five minutes of the game to break it. It's like they didn't playtest the thing at all. Not much sense in putting time into it right now, when it can arbitrarily decide to delete everything you did.

It'll be well worth playing when it's patched, though.

(In the meantime there's Dragon Age: Origins)

Bloodwing on recharge, aim for the head. Always aim for the head.

Oh, and you may want to get a better gun. Incendiary is good.

Been playing this for last few hours, must say I'm impressed so far.

However, this ageing laptop isn't coping too well. Can get my fps to around 40 on medium @ 1680x1050, but then it drops to 5-10 on occasions...then I die.

1 hit kills with sniper rifle rocks.
